I have been experimenting with ADF and various data types and it looks like there is some issue with copying bit data types to the Azure SQL Data Warehouse.
I get the error: Database operation failed on server 'a26bf2889db2.tr20.westus1-a.worker.database.windows.net,11135' with SQL Error Number '110802'. Error message from database execution : 110802;An internal DMS error occurred that caused this operation to fail...
only with tables that have bit data type columns in Azure SQL Data Warehouse. As soon as I change the bit data types to tinyint, the copy process runs fine. I can also alter the Azure SQL Data Warehouse tables after they are loaded and convert the tinyint data types back to bit.
While this is an adequate, albeit tedious, workaround for now. I am hoping Microsoft will address this issue soon.
I am surprised more people have not encountered this problem. Perhaps it is limited to copying data from an on-premise SQL Server instance running on Azure VM into Azure SQL Data Warehouse?
